Father's Day

Father’s Day.

Total commercial BS or important celebration?

I used to think it was just crass commercialisation, but my views have mellowed over time.

Just as COVID-19 has reminded us how important it is to say “I love you” often and out loud, so Father’s Day prompts us to reflect on one of the most important relationships in our lives.

It doesn’t matter if your relationship with your father is (or was) good or bad.

Their presence, or absence, has contributed to who you are, and where you are, today.

And if your father, like mine, has passed away, now is the time to honour his memory.

Or work through any issues.

Because any problem is on your side only.

Your father has gone.

He can’t change or repair any damage he has done.

Only you can.

You don’t have to forgive him.

Just release the anger.

Move beyond the pain.

Choose to heal.

Wherever you are in your relationship with your father, may today be a special time for you.
